Dirt, Pollen, Bugs, Mold Spores and more are in the Air We Breath all the time and are recirculated by your central air system, that is why you must have and maintain your air filters.

Air Filter Electronic Air Cleaner

There are several different types of air filters and the most common type and least expensive of the air filters is the fiberglass or poly disposable filter which you can purchase at any home improvement store

The other type of disposable air filter is the pleated paper filter which is much more efficient at removing the particles from the air.

Air Filters Basic Ploy Fiber
Some other types of air filters include metal or plastic fiber and even hog hair type filters which are usually washable. These types of air filters save you money because they are washable but they are not very efficient at filtering the air because they typically allow large particles to pass through

The latest pleated paper filters now come in much larger thicknesses of up to 4 and 6 inches, these are a great value as they outlast any other filter and really work.

Air Filters Pleated Paper Style
By far the best air filters are the electronic type of air filters, don't confuse these with "static charged" filters as these generally do not work well and are in the same category as the washable air filters mentioned above.

The electronic filters work by generating an electric charge right on airborne particles and then it collects the charged particles just like a magnet.  The neat thing about them is you simply wash the the electronic cells in your dishwasher or sink.

There several different nasty things in the air that most of us are totally unaware of.
Among them are things such as:
    * Pollen
    * Lint
    * Mildew
    * Mold
    * Fungi
    * Virus's
    * Spores
    * Dirt
    * Pet Odors
    * Dust
    * Dander
    * Dust Mites
    * Smoke
    * Cooking Odors
    * Formaldehyde
    * Bathroom Odors
    * Chemical Smells
    * Tobacco Odors
    * Even Volatile Organic Compounds
There are also stand alone systems in addition to whole house filtration and air purification systems that clean the air in your home and which also offer the added advantage of cleaning the air in one room as well as the addition of ozone. Several brands and models are available and the following partner website has great information about home air purifiers.
